Pucillo, King lead Stang swimming past New Bedford

Francesca Pucillo and Jeannette King were double winners for Bishop Stang in a 99-76 girls swimming win at New Bedford on Thursday.

Pucillo touched home first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.25) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.75). King finished first in the 100 freestyle (56.38 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.47).

The Spartans also got wins from Ali Leary (27.21 in the 50 freestyle), Victoria Pajak (135.00 points in the one-meter diving event and their 400 freestyle relay team of Angela Brillantes, Pucillo, Emma Flanagan and King, who combined for a time of 4:03.95.

Kyleigh Barao won a pair of events to lead the Whalers – the 200 individual medley (2:15.05) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.19).

Ana Curry added a win in the 500 freestyle with time of 5:49.00 that qualified her for the sectional meet and the Whalers also finished first in a pair of relays.

Allison Baptista, Abigail Jupin, Isabel Almy-Daigle and Taylor Markey teamed up for a winning time of 2:15.84 in the 200 medley, while Jupin, Markey, Curry and Barao combined for a first-place time of 1:53.62 in the 200 freestyle.

Bishop Stang, which improved to 6-0, hosts Bishop Feehan at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday. New Bedford evened its record at 3-3. The Whalers travel to Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday.
