Pete Tormey – Owner, Performance Coach

Since leaving professional hockey 8 years ago, Pete has become one of the top strength coaches in New England. During his high school and college hockey careers Pete was a standout defenseman for Catholic Memorial and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Pete served as captain his junior and senior years at CM and Lowell, won 3 state championships and a national title.

Pete has trained some of the top high school, collegiate and professional athletes in New England and has been the strength coach for many teams and organizations including Florida Panthers,NESLL, Cape Cod Lacrosse,Cro Art Lacrosse,Cape Cod Storm,Paul Vincent Hockey, Cape Cod Islanders,The Junior Valley Warriors, Pro Ambitions,Falmouth Youth Hockey and Mass Youth Soccer.

Michael Donoghue – Director of Performance

Mike is a native to Cape Cod and has been a part of multiple local athletic organizations. After graduating high school, Mike was a Captain of the Cape Cod Cubs, a junior hockey organization, in 2010. He attended Springfield College and was a member of the Springfield College Pride lacrosse team for four years, finishing out his career as team Captain. While at Springfield College, he interned as a strength coach with the Springfield Falcons (AHL) during their 2012-2013 season which provided direct insight to elite level in-season training.

Mike has an outstanding level of understanding and application of movement patterns, neurological and physiological adaptions and energy systems, as well as injury prevention to produce superior results for his athletes. He puts each athlete through an initial movement assessment to help identify his or her limitations. From this assessment, he creates an individualized performance plan to improve upon the identified limitations while continuing to enhance performance. Mike promotes optimal recovery techniques and encourages athletes to take accountability for their training inside and outside the gym. He creates an environment where athletes can enjoy the training process.

Mike is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College. He makes continuing his education and staying up to date on sports performance advancements a priority in his career.

artie hairston

Artie Hairston – Performance Coach

Originally from Yarmouth, MA, Artie attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. While at D-Y, he was member of the track and lacrosse teams, as well as an All-Star and pivotal member of the state championship football team during his senior campaign.

He attended Springfield College and was a member of the Springfield College Football team for four years; first as a Defensive End before ultimately finding his niche as a Tight End for the Pride. During his time at Springfield College, he was mentored by some of the top professionals within the strength & conditioning industry. He also gained experience and honed his craft through a number of internships.

Artie is known for his quest for knowledge and the infectious energy he brings to the gym. His understanding and application of biomechanics and exercise physiology also make him a valuable asset to the APT staff. Artie is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, a Functional Movement Specialist, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College.

Sara Culhane – Performance Coach

​Originally from Parker, CO, Sara attended Ponderosa High School where Sara was a member of the women’s soccer team, the cross-country team, and the track team. While at Ponderosa, Sara was a Captain of the soccer and cross country teams for my junior and senior year.

Sara attended New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire where Sara received a B.A. in Kinesiology with two minors, Business and Sport and Recreation Management. At NEC, Sara was a four year member of the women’s soccer team, playing offensive center mid and was a captain for the 2016 season.

Phillip Currier – Performance Coach

Plymouth State University: B.S in Exercise and Sport Physiology, CSCS

Phil has spent most of his life in northern New Hampshire and graduated from Woodsville High School. During his four years there, he was a member of the track team, where he qualified for the Wilderness Championships in the 100m & 200m dash each year.

Due to an exceptionally small school size, not many sports teams were funded at Woodsville, and Phil began teaching himself to weight train for sport and hobby where he found a passion for fitness and performance. He attended Plymouth State University, where he tutored Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Exercise Physiology, and Introduction to Psychology while working as a lifeguard and as a nationally certified pharmacy technician. Phil honed his coaching ability through 1000+ hours of internships between APT and Dartmouth College.

Phil brings an incredible work ethic to APT where he plans to continue to further his education concerning optimal sport performance. Phil is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), and holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Physiology from Plymouth State University.
