Steve Cishek has been named our nominee for the 2014 Roberto Clemente Award
Steve Cishek is enjoying a fine year as the closer for the Miami Marlins and is now also their nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award.
Every team has one nominee for the award which is distributed annually. The award which is named in honor of the Hall of Famer recognizes a player’s contributions both on and off the field. Voting for the award is done by both the media and fans with the winner announced during the 2014 World Series.
This season Cishek has saved 36 games for Miami and was a big reason that the team entered September with a chance at the postseason. His reliable arm at the back of the pen gave confidence to manager Mike Redmond as well as the starting rotation. The closer has a 3.32 E.R.A and has struck 80 hitters in 62.1 innings.
Cishek is active in the community for the Marlins in addition to his on-field excellence. One of the main causes that Cishek supports is entitled Bunkers in Baghdad. Via this charity, troops in many parts of the world are sent golf equipment. This venture gives countless troops a way to get away from it all and relax whenever possible. The charity also sends golf equipment around the country to help rehabilitate veterans who have returned home injured.
