Ever wonder what it would be like to compete as a professional athlete? Pete Tormey, owner and head strength coach at Athletic Performance Training, not only played professional hockey, but also trains many top high school, college and professional athletes.
Since leaving professional hockey eight years ago, Pete has become one of the top strength coaches in New England. During his high school and college hockey careers, Pete was a standout defenseman for Catholic Memorial and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Pete served as captain his junior and senior years at CM and UMass Lowell, won 3 State Championships as well as a National Title. During his professional career Pete played with the San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers affiliates.
Pete and his staff had a busy summer, training over 150 athletes from all over the U.S. The Florida Panthers utilized Pete’s expertise in strength training by flying him down to their Development Camp in July. Pete was the team’s head strength coach, responsible for all of the Panthers’ performance testing, nutrition and day-to-day strength training workouts.
APT utilizes a comprehensive training philosophy, which follows a movement-based approach to improving athletic development. The programs we create are designed to correct dysfunctional movement patterns as well as strengthen the athlete in order to limit non-contact injuries and improve his/her athletic ability.
