APT in Charge of Islanders Strength and Conditioning

Cape Cod Islanders president and head coach Dan Hodge knows that to be the best on the ice you have to be working with the best people off the ice and with that the Islanders have just agreed to a partnership with Athletic Performance Training in Falmouth. APT was started by Pete Tormey, who after a standout playing career of his own has ventured into the world of physical training and the science that goes with it. Tormey, whose gym is located in the new Falmouth Ice Arena, employs a very familiar face in Mike Donoghue. Donoghue, a Barnstable native, was an exceptional lacrosse player in college but he is best known as the co captain of the team that brought Dan Hodge his first junior hockey championship. “I am so excited to be working with APT. I watched how Pete and Mike worked all summer and I knew this was the best move for my team. Mike and Pete will have the team in top physical condition so when we step on the ice the players will already be ahead of their competition.” Hodge continues “Mike was such a stand up player and leader when he was my captain, I am proud of all he has accomplished and look forward to spending more time with him on a professional level. He knows what I expect from my guys and I know he will bring it out of them.”

Hodge and Tormey had a brief meeting a couple of weeks ago to discuss this partnership and what each side can do for the other. Hodge left that meeting knowing that the relationship will be mutually beneficial. “I know that we are getting the best personal trainers on the Cape and APT is getting to work with high end junior players from around the world.”

Falmouth Ice Arena housed two of the best in the business this summer APT and also Paul Vincent who is the skating coach for the NHL’s Florida Panthers. Over the summer Vincent had some of his players down to train on the ice and the guys jumped right in and trained with Tormey at APT off the ice. The players were impressed with the knowlege that both Tormey and Donoghue displayed when it came to hockey specific training. “It’s great to know that both of these guys played the game and understand the mechanics and mind set of hockey players. I’m excited that APT will give the team the attention it needs to be the best when the puck drops on September 20.”
